1 Peter 2:22,23 - Entrusted

“He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”

This verse reveals the crux of the matter. Let’s take a closer look at a few of these statements and how they fit in our lives…

- When you find yourself in a pot of hot water, do you ever fudge the truth or spin things to make yourself look a little better? That is deceit and it is something that Jesus didn’t do – and neither should we. Always tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

- When you are insulted, do you insult right back? An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth? That is not how Jesus reacted, and neither should we. Meet insult with silence and prayer…fighting back never gets positive results.

- When you are persecuted by another, do you say, “I’ll get you for this,” or “You’ll get yours”? Jesus didn’t and neither should we. Never threaten another, it only makes them angrier and makes you look childish.

We are called to be in the world, but not of the world. One way we can demonstrate our differentness is to respond to difficult situations with love, faith, and patience (like Jesus) instead of with deceit, retaliation, and threats (like the world). We can do this because we have a heavenly father who sees everything and judges justly. He will set everything right in His perfect time – believe it!
